This straight katana (known as a chokutō (直刀) is a single-edged Japanese sword that was mainly produced prior to the 9th century. This katana is hand-forged in a traditional technique, with a striking high carbon steel blade housed in a wooden black saya for protection.
One of the most striking parts of this exceptional chokuto is it's and black rectangular (Kaku Gata) tsuba, featuring an ornate dragon; Japanese dragons are revered as the benefactors and protectors of mankind; powerful and wise guardians that shield us from universal dangers, impart their wisdom, and a symbol of good fortune and wealth.
The tsuka (grip) is covered in faux ray skin, and then wrapped in ito cord for ergonomic grip. A copper ferrule and seppa are seen where the blade meets the tsuba. This sword is of immense quality and would make a fine addition to any collection.
