Collection: Viking Axes

Viking axes, finished by hand in Yorkshire

Every Viking axe here starts with a forged high carbon steel head and ends up in the Raven Forge workshop in Yorkshire. There the team hafts, part-burns, waxes and leather-wraps it by hand. Most of the axes are fully functional, with a sharp edge that will split kindling as happily as it hangs above the fireplace.

Find your axe

  • Bearded axes. The classic Viking Age skeggøx, with a long lower blade that hooks and cuts. Start with The Ragnar, our best seller, inspired by the axe of Ragnar Lothbrok. Or go for its weathered sibling, Old Ragnar.
  • Double bit axes. Two edges and twice the presence. The Berserker Double Bit carries a hand-burnt red Berserker rune on its ash haft. See the full double sided axe range.
  • Full tang axes. The Full Tang Bearded Axe is one piece of high carbon steel from blade to butt, with rosewood grip panels. It's built to take real punishment.
  • Throwing axes. Lighter heads balanced for the target. Browse our throwing axes.

Make it yours

Our workshop can burn runes and Nordic symbols into the haft by hand. That makes a Viking axe one of the most personal gifts you can give, for a birthday, a wedding or a groomsman. Custom pieces usually take 1–2 weeks.

Looking after high carbon steel

High carbon steel takes and holds a superb edge, but it isn't stainless. Dry the head after use and give it a light coat of oil now and then, and it will outlast you.
